Christmas 2025
I know this Christmas will be a tough one for many people.
For some of us, the year has included deep personal loss. For all of us, Australia has been shaken by violence that felt frighteningly close to home. When innocent lives are taken, it leaves a ripple of grief, anger and disbelief that doesn’t just disappear because the calendar turns to Christmas.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen the very worst of what a human being can be capable of. But we’ve also seen the very best.
We’ve seen strangers run toward danger, not away from it. We’ve seen people help, protect, comfort and hold space for one another—often at great personal risk. Acts of courage from ordinary people who didn’t hesitate to stand up for someone they didn’t even know.
Moments like these remind me of something I still choose to believe: there are far more good people in this world than bad ones. And when darkness shows itself, the most important thing we can do is refuse to look away or shrink back.
Strength doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s choosing kindness when fear would be easier. Sometimes it’s standing up for what’s right, even when it feels uncomfortable or overwhelming.
This Christmas, my wish is simple.
Love the people close to you. Tell them how you feel. Don’t assume you’ll have another chance.
Hold space for those who are hurting. Be gentle, but be brave.
And believe—truly believe—that while the world may feel fractured at times, we can still choose to stand together and help make it a little more whole.
Sending love, strength and compassion to anyone finding this season heavy ~ Carol xx
