This blog is a day late because I’ve been in NSW for the 45th annual MS Gong Ride!
Sadly, this year I didn’t feel fit enough to tackle those hills. But as an ambassador, I was delighted to be there for the finish-line celebrations, cheering on the riders and thanking everyone involved.
And what a ride it is. The route takes participants through the beautiful Royal National Park, past the incredible ocean views at Stanwell Tops and over the spectacular Sea Cliff Bridge, before finishing in Wollongong.
The beautiful Seacliff bridge.
At the finish line, there is so much to celebrate: the kilometres covered, the hills conquered and, most importantly, the funds raised for people living with multiple sclerosis.
MS Plus has been part of my life for 28 years, so this cause is deeply personal. I know how much the right support and resources can mean to someone living with MS. Every donation helps make that support possible.
Then there are the thousands of volunteers who give their time to keep the event running, clapping, cheering and encouraging riders throughout the day. Their contribution deserves a huge round of applause too.
It was wonderful to meet riders as they finished, hear their stories and have the opportunity to thank them from the stage. Each person brought their own reason for riding, but together they were contributing to something much bigger.
By the end of the day, more than $1 million had been raised towards this year’s $1.5 million goal. With the cost of living putting pressure on so many households, that generosity means an enormous amount.
To everyone who rode, volunteered, donated or supported someone taking part—thank you. You helped make it a special day.
My role looked a little different this year, but being there reminded me how much we can achieve together.
And who knows… maybe next year I’ll be back on the start line!
